Linens N Love's lasting contribution towards its volunteers is the lifelong experience of friendships made during these deliveries and its impact on students. Students gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of their community. Directly after every donation delivery is a tour where students are guided by volunteers of the facility to learn more about the organization they're supporting on that day. Students directly see who they are aiding and understand the importance of their cause on these tours. Following each tour is a reflection activity. These range from a scavenger hunt encouraging students to explore their surroundings, to a sit down seminar with the facility's volunteers and staff who speak with them about their experiences helping victims of domestic abuse, drug addiction, and poverty.

Every learning and professional opportunity means the world to me. I love the idea of being immersed in a positive culture supported by community spirit and an emphasis on well-roundedness in character.

I'm excited to have this opportunity to share and celebrate with you all of the recent accomplishments and developments that I've experienced.

Fast facts: my name is May, but I was born in February. I've watched Beauty and the Beast over 50 times and love all things Disney - I dream of starting my legal career at Disney. My loves include bringing baked goodies to school on Fabulous Fridays ("What are Fabulous Fridays?"), Linens N Love, and meeting people from various walks of life. And the first thing I do every morning when I wake up for school is make a list of things I look forward to that day.

These are things I can't write on a resume, but they're an essential part of who I am and what kind of Student Leader I would be. I wake up every morning with a singular goal: happiness and bringing it to myself and others. I firmly believe that Bank of America Student Leaders can bring that same mission to students across the country through a unified front to lead with selflessness.

If selected to be a Student Leader, I hope to bring a positive spirit to the program, along with my professional experience. I strive to work in an environment with mature, outgoing, and professional individuals who can collectively bring their talent to a team.

I sincerely hope to be a part of the Student Leaders programs' legacy of inspiring and peer learning. Thank you for your time and consideration throughout this process - I can't wait to hear back from you soon!

All my best,

May

Values
"The day is what you make it! So why not make it a great one?"
I am ambitious, determined, and strive to create a positive and constructive environment for all. I put pride and into my work, and I love every opportunity for creativity!
Pardon me, inc. Dogs and Cats Rescue
Volunteer (2012 - 2014)
First began volunteering for Pardon Me, Inc. in middle school. Though I was allergic to dogs and cats, I couldn't stay away from the animal rescue. Getting to know each animal at the rescue was a rewarding experience. Getting to talk to potential responsible pet owners to encourage them to adopt was even more rewarding! I know that my passion for discovering complimenting personalities between dogs and their families helps them find "furever" homes.

choice hotels internship grant
March 2017
With more than 6,400 hotels open in more than 40 countries and territories, Choice Hotels offer travelers a wide range of lodging options. This internship grant funded my educational experience travelling to Sacramento to speak to members of Congress and discuss proposed bills pertaining to the hospitality industry. These bills include SB 270 and AB 260. With over $125.9 billion spent on direct travel in California, the hotel industry needs to operate on a supportive and constructive legal platform. I had an amazing time lobbying at the capital and enjoyed this unique experience.

UPDATE: APRIL 2017
Following my journey to  Sacramento to discuss business-friendly legislature, I wrote an article that was featured in the Choice Hotels Owners' Council newsletter. You can read more about the article here! After the article's circulation, I was named the CHOC Spotlight and "The Future of CHOC."

We look for responsible students displaying leadership capabilities to take initiative within their communities. These student volunteer Area Directors undergo an application process and are selected by our Board to lead deliveries in their area. Area Directors reach out to hotel managers directly to coordinate donation pick-ups and to charities to organize deliveries for students to attend.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA COUNCIL OF CHINESE SCHOOLS
CAMP COUNSELOR
SCCCS annually hosts a summer camp in Bear Bear, California in partnership with the YMCA at Camp Oaks. As counselor, I led students ages 7 - 11 in providing a nurturing environment conducive to trying new activities including rock climbing, archery, riflery, Chinese folk dance, and canoeing.

I received hours of training for youth and peer leadership and worked closely with the camp director to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the camp. The camp is an overnight camp and encourages students to develop independence as they learn to hand wash their clothes, connect with their fellow peers and camp family for a week, and clean/set up various camp functions.
